Current 8th grade students are encouraged to register for the TACHS Exam to be considered for admission and scholarship opportunities at St. John the Baptist Diocesan High School.
The Diocese of Rockville Centre partners with TACHS for the administration of the exam. TACHS, the Test for Admission into Catholic High Schools, is typically administered during the first weekend in November.
When registering, please be sure to enter St. John the Baptist DHS code #698 so your scores are sent directly to our Admissions Office.
Students who do not take the TACHS Exam are still welcome to apply to St. John the Baptist DHS. Those students must complete the online application and submit all required admissions materials in order to be considered for acceptance.
For additional information about TACHS and to register for the exam please visit: tachsinfo.com

St. John the Baptist Diocesan High School welcomes students with IESPs or 504 Accommodation Plans. As a private Catholic school, we provide a supportive academic environment; however, there are limitations to the accommodations and services we are able to offer within our program.
Under New York State Education Law Section 3602-c, St. John the Baptist DHS does not directly provide special education services. Students with disabilities who are parentally placed in a nonpublic school may receive services through an Individualized Education Services Program (IESP) from the public school district in which the nonpublic school is located (West Islip).
To receive these services, parents must submit a written request to the West Islip School District by June 1 preceding the school year in which services are requested.
West Islip IESP Request FormsProgram Accommodations Available at SJB
While we cannot provide all services or modifications, the following accommodations may be supported:
Resource Room
If included in the student’s IESP, services are limited to one 40-minute period per day.
Testing Accommodations
Extended time (1.5x or 2.0x) is available. Students begin exams in the classroom and may continue in the Testing Center if additional time is needed.
Students requiring exams to be read aloud will complete testing in the Testing Center.
Preferential Seating
Students are expected to self-advocate with their teachers for seating needs.
Note-Taking Support
Teachers do not provide copies of class notes. Students may be connected with a classmate for support.
Important Considerations
The IESP or 504 Plan must not limit a student’s ability to follow school policies or complete all course requirements independently. This includes homework expectations.
Modifications that alter curriculum requirements, including homework modifications, cannot be accommodated.
General classroom practices already include checking for understanding; therefore, accommodations solely indicating “clarification” or “checking for understanding” are not considered additional supports.
